What did HAIDES Barbershop need from their floor?
HAIDES wanted an authentic, industrial concrete floor for their fourth shop that could take all-day foot traffic, hair and spills, and they needed it done before opening day. After three previous builds, they had yet to find a flooring solution that met their standards. Landon has been a HAIDES customer for five years, so the team called Wish Coatings.
The challenge: a former cafe slab soaked in grease
The new shop took over what used to be a cafe, and the concrete was in rough shape. Years of use had left heavy staining across the slab, with grease that had seeped into the floor. A sealer only bonds as well as the surface underneath it, so the prep had to come first and it had to be thorough.
The schedule was the second challenge. The project came together on short notice, and the floor had to be finished, cured and ready for the shop’s opening.
The solution: a 3-layer grind and seal system with a Hi-Wear 90 topcoat
We chose a grind and seal floor because it delivers the raw, industrial concrete look HAIDES wanted while sealing the slab against hair, product and spills. The clear layers let the character of the concrete show, and the Hi-Wear 90 topcoat adds strength where barbershop foot traffic is heaviest.
How we installed it
- Intensive concrete prep. More than 20 hours of diamond grinding and deep cleaning to pull grease and staining out of the former cafe slab.
- Masking and protection. Meticulously prepped and masked the space before grinding so the shop build-out stayed clean.
- Precision grinding. Ground the slab to an even, open surface that the sealer can bond to.
- 3-layer seal system. Applied each clear coat of epoxy and let it fully set up before installing the next one, for a strong, even bond.
- Hi-Wear 90 topcoat. Finished with our Hi-Wear 90 topcoat for added strength against daily foot traffic.
To keep the opening on schedule, the crew worked long nights. The whole 1,300 sq ft floor was done in three days.
